May the Mets be with You

Is this 2022 or 1986? - With one month of the baseball season in the books, the New York Mets look like the the team to beat out of the National League. As they should right? Not only do the Mets have one of the highest payrolls in baseball ($257 Million), but they made some of the best off season moves this past winter acquiring players like Mark Canha, Chris Bassitt, Starling Marte, and Eduardo Escobar. Not to mention this guy named Max Scherzer!

Things seem to be working out in the Mets favor so far this season. After one month the Mets have the second best record in baseball (16-8), just one game back from their American League neighbors the New York Yankees (17-6) making it their hottest start since 2015 and 2016 where they won 15 games in the month of April in both of those seasons. But, what makes the Mets so dangerous this season is how they have been playing as a team. After the month of April, the Mets are 2nd in batting (.257), 1st in hits (208), 1st in runs (110), and 1st in on base percentage (.339). Not only are the Mets hitting the ball, getting on base and scoring runs, but they are pitching at a high caliber as well. Currently the Mets are 1st in strikeouts (241), 2nd in WHIP (1.03), 1st in shutouts (5), and have held opposing teams to a .190 batting average. All of this without their ace Jacob Degrom! Oh yah remember him? their other 2x Cy Young winner. Degrom, sidelined with a shoulder injury is hoping to come back before the All-Star break and if he does, teams beware. By mid July the Mets are looking like they might be the best team in baseball.
