Cleveland Calls it a Year

August 9, 2023 - Major League is considered one of the greatest baseball movies of all time. A team of misfits, brought together to shock the baseball world going from last to first. This is not the case for the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians are on pace from going first in the AL Central in 2022 to giving up on their team at the trade deadline in 2023. Before the trade deadline the Guardians were just 0.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the division lead. In any right persons baseball mind, one would think, Oh the Guardians must be buying at the deadline in hopes to catch the Twins. WRONG!

The Cleveland Guardians were not buyers at the deadline they were in fact sellers, FOR NO FUCKING REASON. They had every opportunity to go out and get key pieces for their team to compete in the AL Central and decided that this just wasn’t the year, as if they thought, No way we can get a couple wins with 2 months left.

The Guardians would end up sending Amed Rosario to the Dodgers, Aaron Civale to the Rays, and Josh Bell to the Marlins. You might think, but Sam what did they get? Well I’ll tell you. Nothing. They got nothing to help them for the 2023 season. A couple prospects that may or may not turn out and Jean Segura who they immediately released.

Since the trade deadline the Guardians are now 4.5 games behind the Twins and 8.5 games back in the wildcard. Rosario is batting .250, 2HR , 9 RBI and an OPS of .773 for the Dodgers. Civale went 4 IP 3 ER 4 K in his Rays debut, and Josh Mother Fucking Bell is batting .296 with 2 HR contributing to the Marlins battle for the Wildcard. All of this coming from former Guardians who might have helped the Cleveland team stay competitive. Now? Just chalk it up as a year Cleveland. You are 3-11 in your last 14 and the only reason people care about you right now is because Jose Ramirez KO ‘d Time Anderson.
